The Fire Detection Unit (FDU) is used for real-time monitoring of smoke in locomotives. It collects air samples from various locations within the locomotive and analyses them to detect the presence of smoke or fire. If smoke or fire is identified, the FDU generates an output signal and interfaces with the vehicle control system to initiate appropriate safety measures.
